about

Wagga-via-Sydney's gob-stopping guitar-popsters High-tails have just dropped "Into The Light", the next taste of their upcoming debut album "A Slight Hi" (yep, an anagram of the band's name!). The song premiered via Australian Music Scene, who called it "electrifying".

"Into The Light" has already won some famous fans - Brisbane pop king Jeremy Neale was an early champion, and recently appeared on-stage at BIGSOUND to perform it live with the band. Jeremy says "I've been waiting for the recorded version of this song ever since 30 seconds into the first time I saw High-tails play it live. In an age where the hook has been replaced with vibe, 'Into The Light' asks 'Why can't we have both?' Then it says 'Into The Light' a few more times 'cos that's the hook."

"A Slight Hi" is released on 13th October via Stop Start Music (Ball Park Music, Cloud Nothings). Lead-off single "All The Time" debuted via triple j's Home and Hosed. The band launched it with riotous shows in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as slots at Brisbane's BIGSOUND and Sydney's King Street Crawl festivals. LunchBox raved of a recent gig "In spite of how undeniably talented and brilliant High-tails are, they are relaxed and endearingly goofy", while themusic.com.au marvelled "'All The Time' even had passers-by on the street stopping to dance ... the gracious and engaged crowd weren't disappointed".

The twelve-track album was produced by Chris Colonna, founder of Modular Records hitmakers Bumblebeez, who more recently has been releasing club cuts under a variety of aliases including Magic Pirate and Ccolo. After demo'ing at drummer Toby's mum's barn in Bega, Chris beamed himself in from his Braidwood bunker to track with the High-tails boys at studios on the Central Coast and in Sydney. Oh, and frontman Nick recorded some vocals in his bedroom, too!

On working with the band Chris says, "I really liked the friendship of the guys - there was 'country kids' in them all. For me, after working with a lot of single producers and artists, it was nice to work with an actual band where it was one for all and all for one." High-tails' Nicholas Griffith confirms, "Chris was a very laidback and enjoyable personality to have in the studio with us. His approach was much more stripped-back, and focused on the feeling of a take rather than what layers could be added later on. This pushed us to make immediate decisions and changes when things weren't working."

The forthcoming album is the first fresh material from High-tails since 2015's hot-wired singles "Information" and "My Heart". In their busy history the band have completed tours with Jamie T (UK), Philadelphia Grand Jury, Northeast Party House, Oh Mercy and others, and played shows from Toowoomba to Moruya, and Wagga to Wangaratta (plus a few points in-between).

_______________________________________________
In a different town, I don’t know where to go
(Into the light, into the light)
You’ve been changing hands and nobody knows
(Into the light, into the light)
What was that you said, on the telephone?
(Into the light, into the light)
I see you glowing, I see you grow
(Into the light, into the light)

As you walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the light

In a cooped-up crowd at the bus stop, chewin’ on gum and thinkin ‘bout Bebop
(Squeezing in tight, rolling all night)
On the topic of the Prince of Wales, she tosses her hair as she bites her nails
(Into the light, doing it right)
How full is the moon, on the edge of her eyes
(Shiny and bright, into the night)
Still, you gotta get her home before midnight

As you walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the light
You just walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the yeah!

Walk into the light, into the light
Walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the light
You walk into the light, into the light
